We are passionate about the significance of the babaylan in our communities and world today and would like you to join us in bringing about this very unique and special gathering through your efforts and presence.
We believe in the power of the Indigenous Soul and the Indigenous World View, as embodied by primary/land-based babaylans in the Philippines and contemporary babaylan/culture-bearers in the Philippines and in the diaspora, to provide a narrative that restores a sense of wholeness, beauty, and integrity to our pagka-Pilipino.
In a world that aches for peace, justice, and healing from the violent effects of colonial and imperial histories, our Babaylan and our indigenous knowledge systems and practices (IKSP) offer a path to re-membering and remembering the sacredness, strength, beauty, and the creativity of our Filipino Loob.

On Feb. 27-28 members of the Babaylan Steering Committe met to start making concrete plans as mandated during the network meeting in Athens last November. The meeting was held in Utrecht, The Netherlands, attended by Judy Jover (Denmark), Pat Boneo (Greece), Rose Slotema (Netherlands), Adora Fischer (Switzerland) and Malu Padilla (Netherlands).
Major agenda discussed was the planning of the regular Babaylan Conference and Congress which will be held on September 24-26, 2010 in Chur, Switzerland. Soon after the Athens meeting and true to her promise, Adora as able to find a very suitable venue at the parliament house of Chur. The theme and the programme of the Conference and Congress will be finalised by the Steering Committee in the coming months.
After the meeting was a day-and-a-half workshop on Teambuilding and Creating Effective Work systems prepared and conducted by Adora. The weekend didn’t end without the women taking a quick visit to exciting Amsterdam.

EFF - A Herstory (2004-2008)
This herstory tells the story of vision, conflict, struggle and courage, as an increasingly expanding group of people engaged in debate and organizing the EFF. The participants had to step outside their normal working environments to communicate with each other. Small feminist groups working with local struggles brought their issues into broader international contexts, and groups working across borders engaged with grassroots activists they may never meet again. For the organizers, we had to struggle with prioritizing our project in our own working lives, while at the same time realizing that resources we needed for the project were in some ways in competition with the resources needed for our groups and organizations.
At times we had to balance the immediate needs of our own organizations with the potential long-term benefits of a collective endeavour. We engaged in political and strategic disagreements. And, as the timeframe stretched beyond the original commitment each of us made to this project, the ability of Steering Committee members to continue to be involved was put to the test. Meanwhile, questions surfaced around who has the legitimacy to call for such a meeting, and how to ensure that ‘Europe’ is understood as the wider Europe, whatever that actually is. ….

As Lead Harvesters, please encourage and urge Overseas Filipinos who registered for the May 2010 elections to VOTE.
There are three modes of voting : personal, via mail or postal vote and automated. Comelec will print ballots for the 589,830 OAV registered voters. The Committee on Overseas Absentee Voters (COAV) in consultation with DFA-OAV determines the countries where voting shall be done by any specific mode taking into consideration the minimum ctiteria enumerated by the Overseas Absentee Voters Act of 2003. - On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), OHCHR (HRTB), in partnership with the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and UNIFEM celebrated a half-day panel discussion on “Women and migration in Europe, including in the context of the financial crisis” focusing on the European region and CIS countries. The event was held in Geneva on 4 November 2009, following the regional meeting of the ECE in preparation for the 15-year review of implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action, also held in Geneva on 2-3 November 2009.
